Week two reflection

Week two was a great week. We wrapped up our work at the end and tried to do some things that we did at the start of our journey. On the first day we had gathered some trash at the beach because that is what Cam and I had done on the first day. We had chosen to do this again to be able to compare and contrast the trash that we would have picked up on the first day of week one to the first day of week two. On the second day, cam and I had gone to this race around the world, sailboat convention, where all of the sailboats are working on ocean, pollution, and how to study and help the issue. We had tried to go fishing again to see if we can be able to have our luck change and gather some new information about fish. That day struck out and we did not gather the fish that we wanted to. Day three we had been able to meet with a doctor/scientist at Woods Hole oceanographic Institute. He talk to us about right whales and how they are getting entangled in fishing gear. That was a wonderful day,

Blog day 5 week 2

Today we wrapped up all of our work from the past week. We gathered our information and started to craft the information together and get ourselves settled. I made sure we had all of the trash we had picked up collected and sorted out and into the right places to be thrown away or recycled. We had done much this day other than just getting everything together and making sure we were all good for senior project. We reached out to the people we had met with and thanked them for what we had done together and for the information they had provided. This is the last day and we had a blast on this trip. We learned more than I could have imagined. I would do this project over and over again and loved the work that we had done and had an amazing time working with the people that we had.

Week 2 day 3

Today we went to WHOI again and this time we meet with Dr Moore. He had talked to us about right whales and the danger of the engagement in fishing lines and rope. He gave Cam and I a good understanding of rope vs line. Line is when something is being used like when fishermen’s are using long lines to catch fish, the moment that it breaks it become rope because it doesn’t have a purpose anymore. It isn’t being used for something so therefore it becomes dope rather than line. Dr Moore is afraid that the right whale population will go extinct by 2048. This is due to the fact that the number of female or cow whales are diminishing rapidly leading to no more reproduction. The female whales are to small and they’re to skinny where they won’t be matter with and there is nothing that they can do to help it. These ropes are tangling them up causing them to not be able to travel and get enough food to be able to thrive mate with males. Overall we learned so much about right whales and the dang

Week 2 day 2

For today on our senior project we had gone to an oceans race event. Even though we aren’t studying sailing boats, the boats there are all doing an ocean research project. There we saw a boat that was studying micro plastics and the travel of them through the ocean. Even though they can’t necessarily stop and do some research they’re still doing all that they can to get the information that they need. The show was amazing, learning all about the research that they had done and how they were doing it. We ended the day off with some fishing where Cam was able to catch a fish called the North Atlantic Needlefish. Overall today was a great day that was beautiful and look forward to the next.  https://share.icloud.com/photos/0ccKPoZpOKSyBbpRWZpkwtCTw

Week one reflection

Our first week of senior project couldn’t be more than amazing. Meeting with all sorts of different scientists around Massachusetts and Rhode Island was an experience like no other. I have learned more in this one week than I felt I have ever about pollution and micro plastics. I’m learning things that are bettering my knowledge on some topics while learning facts and information that I never knew about.  Day one of our week launched with a good day of beach cleanup. Cam and I sent out to some local beaches around Massachusetts to see how much trash was around on the beach and to clean it up. We filled up 4 bags of trash on two beaching and planned to grab more, but unfortunately ran out of bags. The next day we set out to go fishing and try and find some people that we can meet with during the week. We struck out with fishing but had good knees with meeting people. We got set up for two different occasions at Woods Hole oceanographic Institute(WHOI). We ended the day with sorting thr
